3d Studio Max 9 in Windows Vista !!!

Finally decided to install Studio Max 9, only this time, there is no more XP, but Vista. After installation, I tried to run the program and I got a big error. That’s when my head pinged. Not Vista compatible. First thing I did was what I always do when some program is not compatible, which is not a really good thing. For Max 3d is safe. Follow these steps:

 

  • Right click on the launch icon - Click “Properties”
  • Go to the “Compatibility Tab” - Check “Disable desktop composition”
  • Check “Run as Administrator” under the Privilege Level
  • Tried this only on 3dsmax9 , so I dont’t know abouth the other versions,try it though !!!

    AfterBurn 4.0 delivers rendering speed improvements, workflow enhancements and modularity/extensibility.

    Here is a short list of what’s new in AfterBurn 4.0:

    - New AfterBurn Shadow Map brings a great speed improvement without significant shadow quality loss. Speed improvement over Raytraced Shadows in AfterBurn 3.2 can be more than a factor of five for dynamic scenes and even up to factor of ten for static cloud animations.

    - AfterBurn no longer needs special type of shadows to be able to calculate self-shadowing effect as it supports standard light’s interface for atmospheric shadows (light’s “Atmosphere Shadows” option).

    - FusionWorks support. AfterBurn will properly blend with FumeFX, ScatterVL Pro and Standard 3ds max Fog. FusionWorks support also brings output to FusionWorks Z-Depth Render Element as well as output to non-clamped colors, used in .exr, or .hdr file formats.

    - AFC View is a new workflow improvement that allows users to edit all AFCs and Gradients from one place.

    - Geometry Clipping option enables that particles that are contained inside geometry do not render outside of it.

    - Completely reworked built in noise types are now in form of a plug-ins for AfterBurn that can also be developed by 3rd parties. New 3D Texture Map allows users to use 3ds max 3D Map as a noise generator inside AfterBurn.

    - AfterBurn Daemons user interface is displayed directly inside AfterBurn UI.

    - New Cebas’ ThinkingParticles controller that allows using TP’s channels to replace AfterBurn values.

    Map Layers 3dsmax plugin !!!

    This 3dsmax plugin allows you to blend multiple texture maps together using various blend modes such as add, screen, overlay multiply, similar to Photoshop layer blending. Each layer has it’s own opacity control and mask slot. Main purpose of this plugin to aid in creating complex multi-layered mixed textures on the fly, without using painting programs. You can use MapLayers to quickly hide obvious tiling of a map by mixing it with another map that uses different tiling step. Also it can be very useful for placing any kind of signs, text labels and decals.

    Announcement of Revit and 3DS Max 2009 !!!

    Revit Architecture 2009, and the other discipline-specific flavors, will have the mental ray rendering engine embedded. This is going to really enhance the workflow of the designer. And… as if that was not enough, the new 3ds Max Design 2009, which appears to be taking the place of VIZ has an excellent workflow taking  models from Revit and adding that extra zing. With the ability to export to FBX file format, and having mental ray ProMaterials in Autodesk 3ds Max Design, importing the model geometry with lights, materials, and cameras will be more fluid and much more accurate. I wish I could show you some sample renderings, but that will have to wait a bit longer. For now, enjoy the press announcements mentioning the new products.
